MONSTER MAGNET Members Launch RIOTGOD

January 24, 2008

MONSTER MAGNET drummer Bob Pantella and bassist Jim Baglino have launched a new project called RIOTGOD.

Pantella and Baglino could not stand being off the road, could not stand not touring, could not stand not playing. Being off tour became an excruciating motivator, with each day carving out a bit of the soul of each man.

Furiously, at his secret location, Bob had started to create new music.

Like one of those crime movies, where a team of players is called out from relative obscurity, where day by day each writhes uncomfortably in their own sticky hells, a band was created one player by one player: one phone call at a time.

Bob contacted Sunshine for vocals and Garrett Sweeny for guitar. Sunshine at the time was doing various different things and Garrett rocks via his band.

Over the months, from May 2007 on, Sunshine wrote lyrics and melody and Garrett provided guitars. Quicker than expected things began to come together and Bob, as promised, soon revealed to Jim exactly what he was doing in his seaside laboratory. The band would then be formed — and yet no name would be assigned until months later. Jim and Garrett have contributed music, Sunshine writes and the ball has been kicked into motion.

A full CD of new songs has been completed and as always: more are in the works — this band has a deep well of creativity to draw from and is fueled by a cocktail of frustration, joy, disgust and desire.
